Game Highlights -
Game 1 - Derrick Winterburn hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 6th inning as Summit erupted for 7 runs in the inning to break open a 4-4 tie after 5 innings. Keith (Milt) Reichert went deep for Fishbone. Winning pitcher was Kevin Derfler. Norm Lettich suffered the loss.
Game 2 -
Fishbone scored a run in the bottom of the 10th to snap a 10-10 tie in the completion of the game which was suspended Tuesday night because of darkness to even the series at 1 game each. Fishbone’s offense was led by Dusty Schaeffer who had a home run and a triple and Jesse Snyder who had a 3 run dinger. Boog Krause went deep twice for Summit. Kevin Derfler suffered the loss in relief with Norm Lettich picking up the victory.
Game 3
Summit pounded out 21 hits to take control of the championship game after Fishbone jumped out to early lead by taking advantage of Summit’s shaky defense. Summit’s offense was led by Chris Evitts (3 for 3), Corey Hummel (3 for 3), Kevin Evitts (2 for 2), Brian Nester (2 for 2) and Frank Thomas (HR). Dusty Schaeffer, Brandon Schaeffer, and Keith Reichert each scored 2 runs to lead Fishbone’s offense. Norm Lettich suffered the loss with Kevin Derfler picking up the win.

Summit captured the ASA of PA Class A 10 Player Modified Pitch State Championship title by going undefeated in the tourney held in Meadville July 26th. They beat Hilltop Beer from district 9 in their first game 11-7. They then beat the Indians from district 2 by a score of 9-0. They met Hilltop Beer in the championship game and went on the win by a score of 15-1. This is Summit’s second state title as they won Class B in 2000. They also won the Class B National Championship in 2000.
Summit beat Superior 3 in the championship round of the Schuylkill County Modified League to repeat as league champions.
In the opening game Summit broke open a close game by scoring 7 runs in the 5th inning to go on and beat Superior 3 by a score of 13-3. Dusty Schaeffer and Matt Brandt hit HR’s for Superior 3. Summit’s offense was led by Boog Krause and Kevin Evitts with each going 3 for 3. Boog, Corey Hummel and Cheek Leffler each went deep for Summit. Sal Guerriero picked up the win. Buth Yoder suffered the loss.
Superior 3 started the second game by jumping out early to take a 8-2 lead after two innings. Dusty, Matt, Brommer and Schnoke all hit HR’s to key the early start. With Superior leading 12-4 after five innings, Summit staged a comeback by scoring 8 runs in the top of sixth to tie the game. Cheek hit a solo shot and Kevin Evitts hit a 3 run HR in the inning. Summit scored 1 in the top of 7th to take a 1 run lead. Superior 3 tied the game in the bottom of inning and had two runners on with one out but could not push accross the winning run. Summit took the lead again in the top of the 9th by plating 3 runs, with Kevin E knocking in two runs on a double and then scoring on an RBI single by Ron Luckenbill. Butch Yoder was the losing pitcher, with Sal picking up the win for Summit.
The first round of the Schuylkill County Modified league playoffs are completed with Summit and Superior 3 advancing to the League Championship round.

Summit captured the league tourney by defeating Big Hill by a score of 11-10 in the championship game. Ryan Hoy singled to knock in Chris Evitts with the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning to secure the championship. Summit’s offense was led by Travis Spittler (4 for 4), Chris Evitts (3 for 4), Kevin Derfler (2 for 3), Frank Thomas (2 for 4) and Ryan Hoy (2 for 4). Ryan Hoy and Cheek Leffler each hit 2-run home runs.
Big Hill’s offense was led by Gross (3 for 4), Scott Rhody (2 for 2), Williams (2 for 4) and Norby Brennan (3 for 4) (HR). Freed also connected for a 2 run shot.
Terry Schwenk pick up the win, while Jeff Daubert suffered the loss.
Superior 3 finished 3rd by defeating the Pumpkindusters.
