The 2009 season of the Schuylkill Modified Softball League came to close Tuesday night, the 18th of August, and it ended the same way as it started….with rain!!! This past season brought new teams, new players, divisonal play, an all-star game, home run derby, new play-off format, a new home run leader, rain and make-up games like never before and first time league champs–O’NEALS PUB. Congrats and thank you to all players, teams and fans for your support and for making the 2009 season a memorable one.

The 2008 homerun leader, MIKE LENGLE of FISHBONE, gave it another run but came up a little short and passes the title to KOREY HARRIS of O’NEALS PUB. Ending the season with a total of 14 “lagit” dingers, as Korey likes to say, is now the 2009 HOMERUN LEADER…congrats While Mike did not repeat as season HR leader, he was and is the first to hold the title of 2009 HOMERUN DERBY WINNER!!!

O’NEALS PUB and YOUNG GUNS clinched their respective divisions, earning a first round bye in play-offs. In the first round, Black Sox defeated Summit and Fishbone defeated Superior 3. (((both series went to the third game))) Young Guns met Fishbone in the second round and won the series 2 to 1 while O’Neals Pub played Black Sox and won the series 2 to 0. O’NEALS PUB and YOUNG GUNS then met for the championship with O’Neals Pub winning game 1 by a score of 12 to 0 and game 2 by a score of 12 to 3 after a typical rain delay!!! O’NEALS PUB ends the year with a 24 & 2 combined record.

While this brings the season to a close, there are still some tournaments to played. please check the TOURNAMENTS tab for more information.

Rumors of new teams are already circulating…see you in 2010!!!
