Welcome To Schuylkill County Modified Softball!

Schuylkill County Modified Softball is based in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. The league consists of seven teams that all play at four fields located in the county.

The 2008 season is scheduled to conclude on July 23rd. The playoffs will begin the week of July 28th with the #1 seed vs #4 and #2 vs #3 in a best of three series. The winners will advance to determine the overall league champion in a best of three series beginning the week of August 4th. The league is hosting a 10-man modified tournament open to all registerd ASA class B, C & D teams the weekend of August 15-17. Playoff Results - Summit Wins League Championship

Game 1- Summit 11 - Fishbone 6
Game 2 - Fishbone 11 - Summit 10 (10 innings)
Game 3 - Summit 20 - Fishbone 8

Game Highlights -
Game 1 - Derrick Winterburn hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 6th inning as Summit erupted for 7 runs in the inning to break open a 4-4 tie after 5 innings. Keith (Milt) Reichert went deep for Fishbone. Winning pitcher was Kevin Derfler. Norm Lettich suffered the loss.
Game 2 -
Fishbone scored a run in the bottom of the 10th to snap a 10-10 tie in the completion of the game which was suspended Tuesday night because of darkness to even the series at 1 game each. Fishbone’s offense was led by Dusty Schaeffer who had a home run and a triple and Jesse Snyder who had a 3 run dinger. Boog Krause went deep twice for Summit. Kevin Derfler suffered the loss in relief with Norm Lettich picking up the victory.
Game 3
Summit pounded out 21 hits to take control of the championship game after Fishbone jumped out to early lead by taking advantage of Summit’s shaky defense. Summit’s offense was led by Chris Evitts (3 for 3), Corey Hummel (3 for 3), Kevin Evitts (2 for 2), Brian Nester (2 for 2) and Frank Thomas (HR). Dusty Schaeffer, Brandon Schaeffer, and Keith Reichert each scored 2 runs to lead Fishbone’s offense. Norm Lettich suffered the loss with Kevin Derfler picking up the win.

Summit Wins Class A States

Summit captured the ASA of PA Class A 10 Player Modified Pitch State Championship title by going undefeated in the tourney held in Meadville July 26th. They beat Hilltop Beer from district 9 in their first game 11-7. They then beat the Indians from district 2 by a score of 9-0. They met Hilltop Beer in the championship game and went on the win by a score of 15-1. This is Summit’s second state title as they won Class B in 2000. They also won the Class B National Championship in 2000.

LEAGUE MEETING JUNE 18th MARSTOWN

THERE WILL BE A LEAGUE MEETING JUNE 18th (Wednesday night) FOllowing the first game!  Due to lack of interest, plus the weekend being a holiday. We are going to discuss moving the tournament to August 16th and 17th.

DUE LACK OF INTEREST THE TOURNAMENT IS BEING RESCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 16 & 17th.

2008 Schuylkill County Modified Softball League Tournament
Open to Class B, C, & D ASA Registered Modified Teams
Dates: August 16th & 17th

$200 per team. $50 (non-refundable) entrance fee due by July 27th.
Balance due on or before Bracket Drawing Wednesday August 2nd.
Drawing for Bracket will be held at PG VFW at 7pm.

Fields: Summit Station (Primary), Marstown

No Metal Spikes Allowed

Single wall 1 piece aluminum or aluminum alloy or wooden bats, (new aluminum bats must be ASA 2004 ASTM2219 Certified) Exceptions are grandfathered aluminum bats. Wooden bats may not have any kind of coating.
